Dorothy is the owner and creator, of From Where I Sit, a greeting card company founded in 1999. Her greeting cards and post cards are from her family photo collection spanning many years. While “Pearls of Wisdom” gleaned from parents and grandparents adorn the front, they are purposely blank inside so that you may further personalize them with your own special message. Her cards have made their way around the world and have a universal appeal with a timeless sense of place and often-understated humor. As a child her family went on long drives to Napa Valleys wine country sharing stories, accomplishments, goals and dreams. Long train rides to her job in San Francisco was also a time to dream, draw and remember those precious moments. Her company located in San Jose, California is aptly named “From Where I Sit” based on those life’s experiences.
Featured on Lifetime Television and an exclusive profile on SBTV.com, Victoria Magazine chose her as entrepreneur of the month honoring her at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Her greeting cards caught the eye of Robert Redford who had considered them for his Sundance venues. Her cards feature old family photos dating back to the late 1900’s. “ Always the keeper of family photos”, her cards are sold in prestigious museum stores, bookstores and high-end specialty shops. She has expanded her client base to Hawaii, Canada and most recently Hue Man Book in New York City, home to such notables as Bill Clinton and Maya Angelou who have recently held book signings there.
Always one on the move her current projects include: a new line of greeting cards called “Memories” a collage of old photos and saved memorabilia from her past. In celebration of her romantic side she has completed a line of sensuous cards that ignites our spirits when we sometimes feel invisible. Those cards can be purchased at selected stores and are available upon request.
Lately, Dorothy has concentrated some of her efforts on painting with acrylics inspired by the people and places that fueled her dreams. As a member of the National League of American Pen Women (in Art), she recently won “Honorable Mention” in a Northern California art competition with her painting entitled “Choices. The event was held at Guglielmo Winery in Morgan Hill.
